Being a club officers will give you the opportunity to get more involved in your field of study, let you meet a lot of people, give you a chance to learn more, give you a chance to network, get leadership skills, and it looks really good on your resume. Another benefit of becoming an officer is that you will earn one unit (or two units as the President) per semester. These units can be applied towards nutrition electives! However, only a total of four units can count towards a B.S. degree.

President

The President is responsible for:

  • presiding over all meetings and any executive committee meetings

  • acting as a liaison between the faculty and the club

  • delegating authority to other officers

  • monitoring club activities and events

  • along with the treasurer, getting the name changed for check signing at the bank

Vice-Presidents of Dietetics, Food Science, and Food Service

The Vice-President is responsible for:

  • organizing fund raising events and recruiting volunteers for these events

  • carrying out duties assigned by the president

  • presiding over meetings in the absence of the president

Secretary

The Secretary is responsible for:

  • keeping record of attendance and minutes of all meetings

  • maintaining the internship file

  • maintaining all official records for the club

  • maintaining a list of volunteers at all fund raising activities, which is then given to the newsletter editor for publication

Treasurer

The Treasurer is responsible for:

  • collecting dues of members

  • maintaining member address and phone list

  • maintaining all receipts

  • making all disbursements for the club

  • maintaining accurate records of all financial transactions

Newsletter Editor

The Newsletter Editor is responsible for:

  • composing and editing a monthly newsletter

  • making copies of the newsletter

  • dispersing the newsletter to members

Social Secretary

The Social Secretary is responsible for:

  • arranging for speakers at various meetings

  • sending thank you notes to speakers

  • delegating officers to provide snacks at meetings

Historian

The Historian is responsible for:

  • taking pictures of all events

  • recording these events in a club scrap book

  • using the club display window to create interest in the club

  • contributing time to helping with advertisement of upcoming events and activities

Convocation Chair

The Convocation Chair is responsible for:

  • reserving an area for graduation ceremony activities

  • maintaining a list of graduates who will be attending

  • helping to organize the ceremony

  • helping to oversee the convocation committee

ADA/CDA Representative (American/California Dietetic Association)
IFT Representative (Institute of Food Technologists)
ICSC Representative (Intercultural Steering Committee)
HEIB Representative (Home Economics in Business)
Inter-Organizational Council Representative
Student Affairs Committee Representative

All Representative are responsible for:

  • attending any meetings corresponding to their position

  • finding out when/where the meetings are being held

  • reporting back to the Club, including a summary of the meeting and a copy for the newsletter
