Choosing a Thesis or
Project
After you complete NuFS
216 or NuFS
217 (the graduate writing requirement course), you will need to select
a research question, a full-time faculty member to be your graduate
advisor, and decide whether you would like to complete a Thesis (Plan A)
or a Project (Plan B). After approval of your graduate advisor, enroll in NuFS
295 (Research Methodology). A minimum B grade in the course is
required.

Plan A Thesis
|
|
A Thesis is recommended for those
students who are considering continuing their graduate studies in food
science. It is
worth 6 units, and requires a full three semesters to complete. Once
completed, your Thesis will be published by SJSU, and will be available
as a scientific source for students in the SJSU Library. The deadlines
for filing graduation documentation with Graduate Studies and Research
are more stringent with a Thesis.

Plan B Project
|
|
A Project is recommended for those students
who will not be continuing their graduate education in food science. It is worth 3 units,
and requires two semesters to complete. Once completed, your Project will
be kept within the NuFS Department. The deadlines for filing graduation
documentation with Graduate Studies and Research are less stringent with a
Project.
