Linda Sweeney joined CalProNET as an assistant coordinator in the summer of 2007 and started as the full time coordinator in January 2008. Her BS degree was earned at California State University Los Angles through the Coordinated Undergraduate Dietetic Program. A Registered Dietitian with a clinical dietetic background, she has also worked with the Women, Infant, and Children (WIC) program and as a Consulting Dietitian in Long Term Care.

Linda recently completed her Master’s degree at San Jose State University while working at Santa Clara County Public Heath Department as a Public Health Nutritionist. There she worked on a grant through the Network for a Healthy California to promote fruit and vegetable consumption and to increase physical activity for better health.

CalProNET has been an opportunity for her to experience the exciting field of School Nutrition. She has enjoyed meeting and working with professionals in this area and has developed a deep appreciation for the job they do. She is an active member in the San Jose Peninsula District Dietetic Association and the California School Nutrition Association.

Having retired from positions as a child nutrition director after 36 years, Carol is currently a Consultant for Child Nutrition Programs. She was the Director of Nutrition Education and Food Service at the Alum Rock Union Elementary School District in San Jose for nearly 28 years and Director at Alameda Unified School District for more than 5 years, as well as a director for 3 years in the state of Washington. She has taught as an instructor at numerous colleges and for the Cal-Pro-NET Centers.

She received her BS in Foods and Nutrition from Walla Walla College in Washington State and completed her Dietetic Internship in Institution Management at the University of Washington. She has taken graduate work at Utah State University, San Jose State University, and completed the Healthy Food Preparation Course at the California Culinary Academy.

Carol has served as CSNA president twice and in many capacities for the following: CSNA, School Nutrition Association (SNA), San Jose Peninsula Dietetic Association, and the Santa Clara-San Mateo Inter-Agency Nutrition Council. She has been involved in leadership and standards formation for SNA, State of California Commission on Food and Nutrition, United States Department of Agriculture School Food Service, California State NET Dissemination Project for School Food Service Personnel, and as a district project director for SHAPE California.

Carol has received the CSNA Moscone Award for Commitment to Child Nutrition, the NCSNA Honorary Lifetime Member, California Senate Assembly Joint Resolution No. 874, Outstanding Program Award at Alum Rock School District, and the Alameda Unified School District Recognized Employee Award.

Carol has served as chair and a member of the San Jose State University School Food Service Master's Committee for development of Certificate Program and Master's Program for Food Service Management and as chair for Cal-Pro-NET Advisory Council. She is dedicated to training in all areas of School Food Service.

Ms. Barber is a graduate of University of California at Davis and served her dietetic internship at King County Hospital in Seattle. Phyllis is a Registered Dietitian with over 35 years of management experience in the food industry. Her experience included university feeding at Stanford University, health care food service at Mercy San Juan Hospital in Sacramento, Woodland Memorial Hospital in Woodland and child nutrition programs at Elk Grove Unified School District.

Phyllis' last position prior to becoming a consultant was at Elk Grove Unified School District in Sacramento. She served first as an Operation Manager for Elementary Schools and then as the Operation Manager of the Food Processing Center (a central production site) which produced over 30,000 meal components per day. Phyllis is also a ServSafe trainer and has taught many successful classes for school districts, organizations and restaurants. Phyllis was an instructor for the Child Nutrition Program Administration Course in 2005 and 2006. Phyllis also worked with the California Department of Education, Nutrition Services Division, and Cal-Pro-NET at San Jose State University on the development of the 2006 and 2007 Annual Mandatory Training distance learning materials.

Phyllis has also served in many capacities within various professional associations related to food service and dietetics. She served as president of the Gold Empire Chapter of the Dietetic Association and Mother Lode Supervisory Chapter of the California School Nutrition Association. Phyllis has worked on many committees and, for 5 ½ years, was a member of the Child Nutrition Advisory Committee for the State of California.

Phyllis is active in her community as a volunteer in many capacities. For the last 6 years she has served as an assistant in managing over 200 boys for a large Christian-based boy’s organization similar to Boy Scouts.

Becky is a graduate of the University of Idaho and began her career in 1965 as a teacher of Home Economics where new courses in the curriculum were implemented. She has been an instructor of nutrition, management, and technology classes at several local colleges. She has worked on curriculum development in sanitation, personnel, management and budgeting for over 35 years.

She directed one large school district food service operation and another joint powers agreement with three school districts. She has been President of the California School Nutrition Association and served on many committees for the School Nutrition Association. She has been an instructor for Cal-Pro-NET at San Jose State University in management, finance, and organization. Most recently, Becky worked with the California Department of Education, Nutrition Services Division, and Cal-Pro-NET at San Jose State University on the development of the 2006 and 2007 Annual Mandatory Training distance learning materials.

For eight years, Becky directed all functions and phases of nutrition services for the Stanislaus County Sheriffs Department, where she contracted food services with the Juvenile Hall and a neighboring county sheriff's department. She was President of the California chapter of the International Correctional Food Service Association. She has written many articles and done several presentations at state and national conferences.

Becky has worked with the California Board of Corrections in developing their nutrition standards and is a certified Correctional Food Service Professional with the American Correctional Association. She is active in her community by volunteering in many varying capacities. She is married and has three grown boys. In 2004, Becky received the Distinguished Alumni Award from the University of Idaho, College of Letters and Science, for her outstanding and recognized work in the fields of nutrition, education, and leadership.

Violet Roefs is a Nutrition Education Consultant in the Nutrition Education and Training Unit, Nutrition Services Division of the California Department of Education. She is responsible for coordinating the work of the CAL-PRO-NET Centers with the State NET goals.

A native Californian, Violet did her graduate work at Pennsylvania State University and has enjoyed a long and extremely productive career with the California Department of Education. She holds teaching credentials in the Community College system and a Special Secondary Credential in Home Economics. Violet is also a Registered Dietitian.

She has initiated professional training classes for Child Nutrition personnel at all levels of the California educational system. She was the first recipient of the George Moscone Award for Child Nutrition, the most prestigious award given for excellence and leadership in the area of Nutrition Education by the California School Nutrition Association. She has also served on the Professional Development committee of the SNA.

Ms. Branstrom is a graduate of the California State University at Chico and completed her dietetic internship at the Latter Day Saints Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah.  Ms. Branstrom is a registered dietitian and member of the American Dietetic Association.

Ms. Branstrom worked for over 20 years with child nutrition programs.  Her experience includes approximately two years in management at San Juan Unified School District and several positions with the CDE.  These include working as a child nutrition consultant in the Statewide Processing Unit developing food products using United States Department of Agriculture donated foods and as a regional manager in the Division's Field Services Unit which conducts administrative reviews.  In her current position, Ms. Branstrom lead the Shaping Health as Partners in Education (SHAPE) California Project that pilot-tested new national menu planning options and began implementation of the comprehensive school health model.  Currently, she works in the Professional Education and Training Unit and coordinates statewide training for child nutrition programs.

Prior to working with child nutrition programs, Bonnie worked for Mills College in Oakland, California.  She served as the campus therapeutic dietitian and managed two kitchens, the campus bakery, and two restaurants responsible for student, alumni, and college fund-raising events.
