Goals of the Training Program

First program goal To provide agencies with annual training on significant compliance topics.

Second program goal To provide agencies with access to available resources.

Third program goal To provide agencies with updates of requirements in the Child Nutrition Program.

Fourth program goal To present an opportunity for agencies to review their programs and verify that they are meeting minimum requirements.

Fifth and last program goal To help agencies eliminate common administrative errors.


Specific Objectives

First objectiveIdentify how to access and use the online Training Program appropriately.

Second objectiveUtilize the flexibility of the online Training Program for training of staff involved in all aspects of your program.

Third objectiveRecognize the topic for each module being presented in the training.

Fourth objectiveIdentify useful icons and utilize Web sites in each module.

Fifth objectiveNote the time line required for completion of the training.

Sixth and last objectiveIdentify requirements for completing the Quizzes and Evaluation and receiving the Certificate of Completion.


How to Use the Program

Image of a lightbulb Designate a staff person who will coordinate distribution and completion of all training modules (completion of a module includes taking the quiz for the module) and completion of the Evaluation by the required deadline.

How to use the program, 1 Each module is a “stand-alone” training section. Each sponsor should identify the appropriate staff person(s) who will be responsible for completing each module and taking its respective quiz based on job duties at their agency.

For example, the Verification module might be completed by the child nutrition director and/or a staff person who is responsible for completing the verification process.

How to use the program, 2Training modules can be provided to other staff at your agency in addition to those designated to complete a specific module.

For example, the Meal Eligibility module might be completed by multiple
personnel at your agency if several staff assist with applications when students return to school and the workload is heavy.

How to use the program, 3The training modules may be printed and copied to share with multiple child nutrition program staff and can be used for classroom or individual instruction.

The estimated time to complete all 8 training modules is 7 hours.



Organization of the Training Modules

Each of the training modules has the following sections:

*NOTE: Most training modules will have more than one recommended target audience.

Important Dates

All National School Lunch and School Breakfast program sponsors must complete the entire training by April 1, 2008.

It is important to complete the more critical training modules prior to this deadline as described below:

Important dates, 1 The Verification module should be done during your annual verification activities.

Important dates, 2 The Meal Eligibility and Meal Counting modules should be done as soon as possible.

Important dates, 3 and last The Meal Claiming module should be completed prior to submission of your first Claim for Reimbursement.

NOTE:  For maximum effectiveness, it is recommended that no more than 2 hours be spent working on this training at one time.

   

Mandatory Training Requirement

Requirements, 1The CDE will monitor sponsor completion of the 2007 annual mandatory training by April 1, 2008.

Requirements, 2 All sponsors who complete the training, including the Online Quizzes and Evaluation, by the deadline will receive a Certificate of Completion.

The Certificate of Completion must be kept on file and available during a Coordinated Review Effort (CRE) audit.

Note: Only one Certificate of Completion per agency will be distributed regardless of how many staff work on the training.  

Requirements, 3 and lastAgencies that do not fulfill the annual training mandate will have child nutrition program reimbursement withheld.

 

Online Quizzes and Evaluation

The final phase of the 2007 annual mandatory training is to

Final phase, 1Complete the online Quiz at the conclusion of each module.

Final phase, 2 Complete the Evaluation after completing all of the online Quizzes.

 

Instructions for Completing the Online Quizzes and the Evaluation  

The Online Mandatory Training, Online Quizzes, and Training Evaluation will be accessible from Cal-Pro-NET at San Jose State University. (http://www.nufs.sjsu.edu/calpronet/amt1_instruct.htm)

   Online Quizzes:

Online quizFor each module, review the module Instruction and Web sites, then complete the online Quiz and submit. The staff person designated to complete a Module will take the Quiz for that module.

Note: The designated coordinator at an agency must ensure that Quizzes for all modules have been submitted in order to receive a Certificate of Completion.

   Evaluation:

Evaluation, 1The Evaluation may be completed by one staff person, such as the coordinator, on behalf of the agency.

Evaluation, 2 If multiple staff members would like to evaluate the training, compile all responses into the one Evaluation completed by the designated coordinator.

Certificate of Completion

Upon verification of completion of all online Quizzes and the Evaluation, a Certificate of Completion will be either mailed or e-mailed to the contact person at the agency.
