NuFS Convocation

Convocation is an informal assembly for the graduates of the NuFS Department; it is conducted by the NuFS Club, with the backing of the NuFS Department. Convocation is open to all graduating nutrition students. The event is separate from the main graduation ceremony at Spartan Stadium.

The Convocation ceremony is a small and personal function. All of the NuFS graduates are recognized individually, as are the Outstanding Students, Outstanding Professors, and recipients of various awards. Included in the Convocation is a brief ceremony and (usually) a luncheon. It is an opportunity for your family and friends to join you in celebration of your academic achievements, and meet with the faculty and other guests.

The exact format of Convocation changes from year to year and depends on the wishes of the NuFS graduating class as expressed to the Convocation Chairperson. There is no set formula, although there are precedents. NuFS students who have an interest in how their Convocation Ceremony is conducted are encouraged to become involved in the initial planning. Although the NuFS Club is usually able to contribute a portion of Convocation costs, there is usually a fee to cover expenses. The fee varies, depending on the success of Convocation fund raising efforts, and whether the ceremony is being held on- or off-campus.
